On Addictions
There is probably not one individual on Earth who has not been touched by addictions whether it is themselves, a relative, a friend, an acquaintance, or possibly just someone popular in the public eye. We exercise excessively, have sexual addictions, drink too much, eat too much, take prescription drugs to excess, and of course indulge in illegal drugs like heroin or crack cocaine to name only a few. Why do we do this?
"Ultimately, it is a last ditch effort on the part of humanity to ignore the fact that they are a spiritual being. Interestingly enough, you immerse yourself in as many material objects as you possibly can. The addictions, really, are to that very thing that you are resisting, which is spirituality. Alcohol can open up an individual into understanding a much deeper emotion, and a deeper awareness of the light being that they are. It releases them from the confines of the Earth, the body, and the mind, which pushes them into a realm of understanding that there is a yearning and a desire for more in life.
Drugs, depending on which one you are talking about, can really push you deeper into the ethers so that you feel like “I’m finally going home. I’m back in Heaven here.” And how beautiful it is to have this wonderful awareness. You have a nice excuse to have philosophical discussions, spiritual awarenesses, and epiphanies. There are many reasons for this. Some drug addicts will immerse themselves in the drug to the avoidance of community, of humanity, because, it feels much better to be in that place of understanding. That place where they can truly feel that they are once again united with God. Those on planet Earth put an enormous amount of pressure on human beings to be very materialistic, and to immerse themselves in the purchasing of cars, homes, and all the rest, when these are not necessarily the places of feeling abundant. Quite frankly, many drug addicts and alcoholics do feel very abundant inside when they are indulging in their addiction, though that may seem odd. It is freedom from the material life."
